Ecogas Mexico S.R.L. provides natural gas to about 100,000 customers through operations in Mexicali, Chihuahua and La Laguna-Durango.
The Mexicali division received the first license awarded to a private
company to build a natural gas distribution system in Mexico.
The system, in Mexicali, Baja California, began operations
in 1997, and now provides natural gas service to more than
12,000 residential and commercial customers. The Mexicali division supplies
natural gas to more than 60 clients in the glass, steel, paper
and electronic sectors, among others.
The Chihuahua division began providing natural gas to customers
in the capital city of Chihuahua in 1997. In 2002, the company
became the first private natural gas distributor in Mexico
to surpass its contract goal: more than 51,000 customers.
This historic project, an investment of $60 million, marked
the first time that Pemex, Mexico's state-run oil monopoly,
transferred natural gas assets to a private company.
The system now serves 55,000 households and commercial customers,
and, in the near future, it will expand into the neighbor
city of Delicias. The company also provides natural gas to
more than 250 industries that make ceramic, paper, cement,
automotive products and textiles.
The La Laguna-Durango division operates a natural gas distribution
system in the fast-growing region that includes a number of
cities in the states of Coahuila and Durango. In 1999, as
part of its license, ECOGAS assumed control of 26 miles of
transmission pipeline serving 22 of the region’s
largest industrial customers.
The La Laguna-Durango division serves more than 30,000 domestic users and about
200 industrial customers within the mining, cement, textiles,
food and beverage, and automotive sectors, which are in industrial
parks within the region.
