Bay Gas Storage
Bay Gas Storage, located approximately 40 miles north of Mobile, Ala., is the
easternmost salt dome storage facility in the Gulf Coast and the “last stop” to
downstream Florida markets. Bay Gas, in service since 1994, provides safe,
reliable natural gas storage services through the operation of three high-deliverability, underground caverns with 11.4 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of total working gas storage
capacity. Total current injection capacity at the facility is 425 million cubic feet (MMcf)
per day and total withdrawal capacity is 1,200 MMcf per day.
Bay Gas has direct pipeline interconnections with major interstate pipelines, including Florida Gas Transmission, Gulf South pipeline and Transco’s 4A lateral, giving Bay Gas access to upstream supplies, LNG imports and downstream markets in the Southeast, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
Expansion of the facility is underway, with a fourth cavern providing an additional 5 Bcf
of storage capacity under construction and expected to come online in 2010. Additional caverns and associated pipeline expansions will be evaluated and constructed based on incremental market demand for transportation and storage services at the facility.
